75th Anniversary

March 31, 2022 marked the 75th Anniversary of the founding of The Cullen Foundation on March 31, 1947. Over these 75 years, the Foundation has made investments in a variety of non-profit organizations that have helped build Houston into a vibrant city with strong communities and better opportunities for underserved populations.

To honor this milestone, Cullen family members from across the globe gathered alongside Cullen entity staff, Board members and service providers to celebrate the expansive legacy of Hugh Roy and Lillie Cullen. Attendees learned more about H.R. and Lillie Cullen’s philanthropy: their incipient personal gifts, the grants made through the Foundation, and the grants made through the three Trusts for Health Care, Higher Education and the Performing Arts, all of which were established by the Foundation in the 1970’s. Historical distributions from the Foundation, the Three Trusts and the endowments created by each entity culminate in over $1 Billion in total distributions to the community.

Moments from the event are shared below, including a presentation by Laura Chapman, Chief Operating Officer, that catalogues the inspiring story of Hugh Roy Cullen and the origin of The Cullen Foundation.
